In most situations, simply entering “eecu.org” into the address bar of your browser will take you to the legitimate eecu.org website. However, there certain types of malware that can hijack your browser session and send you to fake websites for the purpose of committing fraud against you. Because of that, there are a couple of important things to look for:
1. First off, make sure the URL (web address) is correct. For EECU’s main website, the URL will always be eecu.org. For Online Banking, the URL is eecuonlinebanking.org. Don’t ever enter login information unless you see one of those two domain names.
2. EECU secures its sites with digital certificates (see “Is Online Banking secure” for more info). Specifically, we use a type of certificate called an “extended validation” certificate. The benefit to the extended validation certificate is that when you go to eecu.org or eecuonlinebanking.org, you should see also the credit union’s name (“EECU Credit Union [US]”) show up in green on the address bar (in Internet Explorer, the entire address bar actually shows up in green). If you click on the credit union’s name, it will display information about the certificate
